Artillery
Weapons development in Artillery lead to a change in tactics by causing all sides to make basic readjustments to trench warfare. They became more scientific and easier to use. Barrages became shorter and less predictable, this kept the ground more intact between trenches and gave infantry raids a greater element of surprise. They used tunnels to get up close and place mines around otherwise impenetrable enemy trenches. The development of the machine gun made firepower greater than manpower.
